The Challenge

Bdeo experienced rapid growth during the pandemic as insurers relied on their platform for remote evidence gathering. This accelerated scaling exposed gaps in architecture design and created unit-economics blind spots. The company struggled with cost visibility and needed clarity into which business areas and products were driving cloud spend to make data-driven optimization decisions.

The Solution

Bdeo implemented DoiT Cloud Analytics with custom dashboards to visualize cloud costs across the organization. They used Allocations to attribute costs to specific products and services, deployed Real-Time Anomaly Detection for accurate cost spike identification, and leveraged Flexsave for Compute to optimize on-demand EC2 workloads. DoiT Cloud Reliability Engineers provided strategic guidance on storage tiering and conducted a Well-Architected Framework review.

Visualizing Cloud Spend Across the Organization

Bdeo began working with DoiT in 2023, leveraging DoiT Cloud Analytics and building custom dashboards to gain clearer insight into cloud costs. DevOps engineers, ML Ops, and CIO roles now have tools to visualize any cost in detail within five minutes. Bdeo uses Allocations within the DoiT Platform to attribute costs to specific products and services, providing clear view of complex cloud expenditures. Real-Time Anomaly Detection replaced frequent false-positive alerts with accurate identification and guided remediation recommendations.

Cutting On-Demand Instance Costs with Flexsave

Much of Bdeo's Amazon EC2 usage is covered by AWS Reserved Instances for predictable workloads. However, some resources must scale dynamically, requiring on-demand pricing. DoiT recommended Flexsave for Compute, which automatically identifies and applies discounted rates to EC2 workloads not covered by commitments. This delivered an additional 10% savings on Bdeo's on-demand compute costs.

Strategic Architecture Optimization

Bdeo partnered with DoiT Cloud Reliability Engineers to identify further efficiencies across its AWS environment. Given the company's heavy use of image and video data, optimizing storage tiering was a priority. DoiT CREs collaborated to design an intelligent storage tiering strategy, balancing rapid access requirements with cost-effective pricing. The result was improved storage economics without compromising performance or availability.

Well-Architected Framework Review

As Bdeo gained greater cost visibility, it worked with DoiT CREs to analyze and optimize its AWS architecture for reliability, performance, and security through a Well-Architected Framework review. Following the review, Bdeo implemented multiple security enhancements to reduce system vulnerability. The process also sharpened focus on workload health and AI processing performance, ensuring the infrastructure could scale while maintaining required performance benchmarks.

Expanding Partnership for Future Growth

As Bdeo continues optimizing cloud costs and working toward 100% workload tagging for full cost visibility, the partnership with DoiT is expanding to focus on strategic cloud architecture initiatives. Bdeo is developing real-time AI insights that guide users on image quality and provide instant recommendations for improvement. DoiT Cloud Reliability Engineers are consulting on the right architectural approach—balancing developer experience, performance at scale, and cost efficiency.
