beloFX needed cloud-based infrastructure to work flexibly across global locations and take advantage of regional government subsidies. The visual effects industry requires significant compute power for short periods, making capacity planning and spend forecasting difficult. The company also needed high-speed networking to handle terabytes of data generated by visual effects work while keeping latency minimal for highest quality output.

Building scalable, reliable cloud infrastructure
beloFX began working with DoiT in 2021, spinning up its infrastructure as code with Google Cloud to build the agile, flexible architecture its clients required. A crucial part of this process was structuring compute resources cost-efficiently using Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE). DoiT's technical expertise helped beloFX find the optimum GKE configuration, advising on machine types and regions for maximum availability and reliability. DoiT's approach gave beloFX control over setup while providing expert guidance through technical sessions.
Accessing the best resources at the best price
DoiT serves as beloFX's primary partner for negotiating better prices and securing credits and discounts through longer-term commitments. DoiT recently helped beloFX secure a one-year commitment with Google Cloud, resulting in significant and predictable savings plus credits for compute resources. This deal enabled access to the latest NVIDIA GPUs, helping beloFX stay ahead in an industry where AI technology and machine learning are becoming increasingly important.
Gaining detailed understanding of cloud spend
Working on various projects simultaneously makes it challenging for beloFX to allocate cloud costs by production and control expenditures. The company relies on DoiT console's dashboards and reporting to manage cloud spend effectively. The analytics revealed that beloFX's intuition about costs was incorrect - while they assumed compute power would be most costly, GKE configuration was successfully keeping those costs down, with storage being the bulk of expenditure. This insight led beloFX to work with DoiT and Google Cloud on developing a tiered storage system.
Configuring access permissions with CRE support
beloFX sought advice from DoiT cloud reliability engineers (CREs) on configuring security setup for client environments. Establishing proper access levels and permissions for all users is challenging and needs customization for each organization. DoiT provided initial support to master fundamentals, which Jack's team used to set up role-based permissions across the organization with access permissions changing when users change roles.
