With nearly 20 years of technology built and layered together, GoldenRace wanted to identify areas of its cloud infrastructure it could optimize to improve performance-per-spend and cut wasted engineering effort. Operating in multiple countries with multiple cloud accounts made it difficult to understand exactly where or how they were spending money to power their cloud infrastructure.

The Solution

DoiT helped GoldenRace review their database usage to identify spikes and optimization opportunities during an AWS Aurora 2 to Aurora 3 upgrade. Founded in Malta in 2006, the company offers virtual sports betting opportunities across virtual racing, football, and more on over 500 websites. By simulating realistic games and realistic odds, GoldenRace provides new opportunities for entertainment and unique viewing experiences worldwide. Improving efficiency during a complex migration

During the upgrade from Aurora 2 to Aurora 3, DoiT helped GoldenRace recognize areas of its database that could be improved while simultaneously migrating versions. By recommending changes to specific configurations, the team could accelerate processing speed and allow the database to be more adaptable to usage fluctuations without adding operational overhead. GoldenRace implemented Flexsave for Compute for ongoing, automated compute management. DoiT also suggested Aurora I/O optimized with MySQL 8.0 to better meet their needs.

Gaining greater visibility across cloud environments

Variation in regional regulations and data storage laws means GoldenRace maintains multiple AWS accounts. The company wanted to make more data-driven decisions but compiling cross-account data took several days every month. They combined these datasets into DoiT Cloud Intelligence and Cloud Analytics to gain clearer insight across the entire organization. This reduced the time spent manually finding and processing data, allowing focus on growth.

Protecting company data with proactive cloud security

With Real-Time Anomaly Detection, GoldenRace can automatically catch and quickly correct cost and security anomalies before they escalate. The automated review process means they don't have to monitor workloads constantly, and if a vulnerability appears affecting their system, they're alerted immediately. The team can now catch common vulnerabilities and exposures before they're deployed in production. They detected a vulnerability in one of their variables built using a third-party tool, but DoiT's Anomaly Detection combined with Lacework caught the CVE and provided remediation recommendations before it reached production.

Results and ongoing optimization

GoldenRace completed its AWS Aurora 3 migration in just two months during the busy holiday season while minimizing downtime. The company saw an immediate 3% reduction in cloud cost across each server with Flexsave for Compute, growing to more than 5% as it scales. Monthly reporting that previously took several days now takes just one hour with the DoiT dashboard. GoldenRace continues leveraging their relationship with DoiT to explore new optimization opportunities, including right-sizing Kubernetes clusters.
