The Challenge

After migrating to AWS, Moralis faced multiple database issues in the new environment and had several unoptimized workloads. One major workload was running Citus on Amazon EC2 at significant cost. The company also struggled with quota requests on new AWS accounts and needed expertise for migrating to unfamiliar technologies like DynamoDB.

The Solution

DoiT provided expert Cloud Reliability Engineers to conduct architecture, cost optimization, and security posture reviews. The team helped Moralis implement backup strategies, multi-region capabilities, and migrate from Citus to S3 and DynamoDB. DoiT also expedited quota requests and provided ongoing support for infrastructure optimization and best practices guidance.

Cost Optimization Results

Since using Flexsave for Compute, Moralis has seen cost savings of 10%. DoiT helped fix NAT gateway configuration issues where traffic was bouncing through the internet and back in again. By setting up traffic to be AWS internal, Moralis saved significant infrastructure cost. DoiT also helped set up custom reports with overviews of infrastructure cost, making it easy to track down costs and monitor changes over time.

Infrastructure Improvements

Moralis has adopted several of DoiT's recommendations, including backup strategies and multi-region capabilities. DoiT provided recommendations on using key features with EKS, such as annotations that keep pods together inside the availability zone, minimizing network jumps. Getting increased quota requests on new accounts became much faster since onboarding with DoiT.

What's Next

Moralis is using its learnings to continue building on its mission of Web3 growth, adding new features, additional blockchains, and improved data handling. The company is adding more chains and features to their API while simplifying existing workflows, making it even easier to use their products.
