Founded in 2009, Patients Know Best grew steadily to 100,000 users while collaborating with the UK's National Health Service. The COVID-19 pandemic drove explosive growth to 3 million users. Although the engineering team expanded from six to nearly 100 people, maintaining infrastructure amid fluctuating demand remained challenging. Manual monitoring became impractical at the new scale.
